AIMS & OBJECTIVES
Our School endeavours to be an academic community characterized by a shared vision, responsibility and mutual love.
  1. An Academic Community
    1. All the members of this community specially the staff, aim at the achievement of a common vision of promoting education and its goals. With this in view, there are periodic refresher courses and meetings for discussion and reflection, as well as programs for the personal and spiritual growth of the staff, with sufficient opportunities for free, mutual and friendly interaction among all members.
    2. Community spirit is fostered with a feeling of togetherness at religious and social gatherings.
  2. Committed to Integral Education of all Students
    1. To promote and develop a wholesome, integrated personality which enables a student to be an independent individual and face problems and trials in a healthy manner. Therefore, no student is excluded for reasons merely related to his/ her economic status.
    2. Special attention is paid to the moral, spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, emotional, civic, cultural, aesthetical, psychological and vocational needs of the student.
    3. In this process of education, students are taught not mere passive reception, but active participation. They learn to reflect and analyse on their own.
    4. Hence opportunities are made available where students can develop their various skills like communication, creativity, imagination and aesthetic sense.
    5. Students are helped to gain realistic knowledge, love and acceptance of self, and the concept of competing against self, rather than the other is encouraged.
    6. Religious instruction includes prayer and worship and opportunities to reflect on life from a spiritual perspective.
  3. A Just and Humane Society
    To prepare a student to be responsible and actively helping to build a just and humane society.
    1. A realistic awareness of the evils in society and opportunities for development is created in the child not by precept alone, but through practice in class by interaction between teachers and students, students and students, also by exposing them to the environment outside. Opportunities for guided contact with the poor and service to them are also given. This is preceded and followed by reflection.
    2. Respect and appreciation for every individual, dignity of labor and habits of sharing and reconciliation are promoted.
    3. In special instance, the school intervenes actively as an institution in human and civil rights issues at local and wider levels.
  4. An Awareness of God’s love, His care and concern is created. There is an emphasis on :
    1. Devotion to God, reaching out to mankind spiritually and physically, whenever possible and necessary.
    2. The teaching of Catholic Doctrine to Catholic students and Ethics to others, is taken up with loyalty and sense of responsibility.
    3. All activities taken up, create a conviction, that everything is done for the Greater Glory of God. This enables everyone to live life to the fullest and be a pride to womanhood and manhood, in accordance with God’s plan.

PROFILE OF A ST. MARY’S ICSE SCHOOL LEAVER
  1. OPEN TO GROWTH
    Though he/ she is very much in the process of developing a St. Mary’s ICSE School leaver is already:
    1. A maturing individual willing to pursue his / her own growth because he /she desires to be a better individual emotionally, intellectually, physically, socially, morally and religiously.
    2. He / She is an individual without any prejudice and is willing to learn and accept new ideas (even his / her faults and limitations) and change according to the needs of the times. Hence, he / she adjusts to the given situation if and when necessary. He/ She therefore, grows into a mature adult.
    3. He/ She has a receptive and discerning mind and has the courage to place duty before self.
    4. He/ She is more aware of his / her feelings and emotions and is authentic in expressing them; at the same time, she is learning to be responsible in controlling them.
    5. He/ She has sense of wonder and has developed a wide range of aesthetic experiences and is also open to goodness and truth.
    6. He/ She is exploring career and life style choices, based on a framework of noble values and not mere materialistic ones only.
  2. INTELLECTUALLY COMPETENT
    1. Has developed basic skills both, in oral and written expression, leading to greater precision and personal style.
    2. Has a healthy curiosity to explore new ideas and issues.
    3. Is versatile in both, academic and non-academic fields, and is able to communicate and participate in discussions.
    4. Has a discerning ability, is an independent person.
    5. Is aware of the current situation and happenings and is willing to acquire more knowledge.
    6. He / She understands the rights and responsibilities of a citizen. She appreciates his / her religion, culture, heritage and respects those of others.
    7. He /She is growing in awareness of the current social, and economic and political trends, specially the problems and how they affect people.
    8. He/ She is aware that he / she is a part of world community in which he / she has responsibilities.
  3. MORALLY SOUND
    1. Has undaunted courage to stand up for the right even in the face of opposition and criticism.
    2. Love, truth and justice in word, deed and thought and is guided by conviction in daily living.
    3. Has hope enough to go beyond mistakes and failure to learn from them and to grow.
    4. Is compassionate to those in pain and tough when right convictions are at stake.
    5. Has self-control when the situation demands strength of character.
    6. Has a sound system of values which are a part of his / her life.
    7. Is able to make moral judgments, based on those values give moral reasons for them and act accordingly.
  4. 4. PSYCHOLOGICALLY WHOLE
    1. Is more aware of feelings and emotions and is beginning to be authentic in expressing them, at the same time, he / she is learning to be responsible in managing his / her impulses.
    2. Is more capable of putting self in another person’s place and understands what that person is feeling.
    3. Is beginning to relate easily and naturally with persons of opposite sex.
    4. Is becoming more flexible and open to other’s points of view, recognizes how much can be learnt from a careful listening to persons and significant with others.

    1. He / She is learning to accept self with his / her strengths and weakness and to love self as valuable.
    2. He / She is learning to trust his / her family, friends, teachers, and other adults.
    3. He / She is able to sort out personal prejudices and communicates easily with others.
    4. He / She has begun to appreciate deeper personal friendships, but has also learnt that not all friendships are profound and lasting.
    5. Though service to others, he / she is learning to appreciate the satisfaction of giving self for others and therefore, finds life enriched.
  6. COMMITTED TO JUSTICE
    1. Is more aware that selfish attitudes can be lead to unjust treatment of others, by infringing on their human rights, therefore he / she consciously seeks to be more understanding, accepting and generous with others.
    2. He / She has been exposed to the needs of the poor in the school and community outside, has gained some empathic understanding of their conditions of living and has developed compassion for them.
    3. Is concerned with social problems – drugs, pollution, lack of cleanliness, pornography, crime and corruption.
    4. Is aware of the need to help and support those who suffer injustice or those who are at a disadvantage e.g. the poor, the handicapped, the old and infirm.
    5. Is aware of the influence of mass media - T.V. advertising etc. in spreading materialism and consumer values and realizes that these could, at times, be in conflict with the demands of a just society.
